Even though Sarcoma Awareness Month will soon be coming to a close, there is still time to take action and help raise the profile of this rare cancer. Our colleagues at the Sarcoma Alliance have undertaken an effort to have the United States House of Representatives officially recognize July as Sarcoma Awareness Month. Thanks to their hard work, Rep. Kathy Castor (D-FL) in June introduced H. Res. 722, a resolution expressing support for designation of July as National Sarcoma Awareness Month.
Since its introduction, H.Res. 722 has gained two additional co-sponsors. With the month of July quickly winding down, now is the time to urge even more members of Congress to support this measure. The Sarcoma Alliance has set up a petition at http://www.thepetitionsite.com/788/428/730/name-july-as-sarcoma-awareness-month/. Signing on to this online petition will allow you to express your support for Sarcoma Awareness Month and will use your address to send an email to your congressperson to let them know that this issue is important to you.
You can also contact your member of Congress directly. All that it takes is a quick phone call or e-mail to your representative to let them know that you would like them to co-sponsor and support H. Res. 722. You can find contact information for your member of Congress at http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/. Want to see a copy of the resolution? You can find it here.
